Coaching Requirements

2019 International Coaching Criteria:
Head Coaches:
  • Must be a current member in good standing with USA Powerlifting.
  • There are no active safe sport or disciplinary actions being conducted or enforced.
  • Head Coaches must be properly attired in USA Powerlifting logoed apparel while coaching in any aspect.
  • Head Coaches must be a USA Powerlifting Senior International Coach.
  • Must stay and coach for the entire duration of the Championship. (i.e., if a Head Coach for the Masters Team, must stay entire duration the Master’s Team is competing.)
Assistant Coaches:
  • Assistant Team coaches must be a current member in good standing with USA Powerlifting.
  • There are no active safe sport or disciplinary actions being conducted or enforced.
  • Assistant team coaches must be properly attired in USA Powerlifting logoed apparel while coaching in any aspect.
  • Assistant team coaches must be a USA Powerlifting Senior National Coach or higher.
  • Nominated assistant team coaches must stay and assist for the entire duration of the Championship. (i.e., if an Assistant Team Coach for the Masters Team, must stay entire duration the Master’s Team is competing.)
Personal Coaches:
  • Personal coaches must be a current member in good standing with USA Powerlifting.
  • There are no active safe sport or disciplinary actions being conducted or enforced.
  • Personal coaches must be a USA Powerlifting Club Coach or higher.*
    * Coaches grandfathered in for this year ONLY – 2019;  under the following 2 stipulations:
    1.  Must be a State Referee or higher
    2.  Would have to complete the Club Coach course or higher prior to their next coaching competition.
  • Personal team coaches must be properly attired in USA Powerlifting logoed apparel while coaching in any aspect.
  • Only one personal coach per athlete.
  • A personal coach may be asked to leave the warmup area by the Head coach if the meet director or meet official deems that there are too many coaches in the warmup area.
  • Personal coaches acknowledge that the Head coach has the final say on all lifter’s attempts – the Head coach will communicate with Personal coach whenever possible.
  • All Personal Coaches must be approved by National Team Head Coach and be officially nominated by USA Powerlifting.
Handlers (Fellow Athletes on their own team) – but listed as a “Coach” on the IPF Nomination sheet
  • Must be a current member in good standing with USA Powerlifting.
  • There are no active safe sport or disciplinary actions being conducted or enforced.
  • Must be properly attired in USA Powerlifting logoed apparel while coaching in any aspect.
  • A handler may be asked to leave the warmup area by the Head coach if the meet director or meet official deems that there are too many coaches in the warmup area.
  • Handlers acknowledge that the Head coach has the final say on all lifter’s attempts – the Head coach will communicate with handler whenever possible.
  • All Handlers must be approved by National Team Head Coach and be officially nominated by USA Powerlifting as “Coaches”.
  • Must complete Safesport certification and background check (fees will be paid for by the Handler), if you are 18 years of age or older AND coaching on any team that has Minors:
  • Must complete Safesport certification – No background check needed for minors (fees will be paid for by the Handler), if you under 18 years of age AND coaching on any team that has Minors:
