The USA Powerlifting Coaching Committee is comprised of all international team head coaches. The committee serves to support its mission and collaborates on all decisions related to the teams as well as development, harvesting, and recruiting lifters. Proposals are then sent to the Executive Committee for final approval.
Matt Gary currently serves as Chairman of the Coaching Committee and Director of the Coaching Certification Program. Matt graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiological Sciences. In 1995, he was recognized as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Matt is a 21-year veteran of competitive powerlifting. He is a USA Powerlifting Senior International Coach and has coached at the highest levels in powerlifting both as an assistant and head coach on the USA Powerlifting Men and Women’s Open National Teams since 2003. Matt was also the head coach of the USA Men’s Team at the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. In 2012, Matt was named the USA Powerlifting Coach of the Year. He also serves as a National Referee and member of the Raw Committee.
